Question: A parent calls asking what to do if their child is COVID positive with a home test or through a clinic?

Response: Children that test positive for COVID are to stay away from school (KSA 65-122). Siblings may attend school if they are symptom-free.


Question: Does USD 361 still offer COVID antigen tests to students whose families are interested?

Response: This is available upon request.

January 26, 2022

COVID Update: Reminder to families and staff to follow KSA 65-122 which states that it is the responsibility of the family and school to keep a student who tests positive out of school until the quarantine window has closed. The Harper County Attorney has clarified the reminder for USD 361 to follow KSA 65-122.

January 20, 2022

COVID Update: As of January 1, 2022 USD 361 will no longer mandate antigen testing in order to be in school as a close contact rather than wear a mask or be in quarantine. Prior to this action, students had the option to antigen test daily or quarantine at home for 10 days. There is no masking, testing or quarantining requirement. The district is currently not following KDHE guidance.

Chaparral Schools would like to clarify the current protocol of COVID 19. Please reference the flow chart below. The intention is to understand the steps a parent/guardian needs to make if or when their child is exposed to COVID-19.


The School Board & District Staff respect and understand the importance of parent choice surrounding COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.

The Harper County Health Department, Attica, and Chaparral school systems, and Patterson Hospital staff met today to discuss the challenges and tasks surrounding COVID-19. The purpose of this message is to provide a brief summary of the key conversation points.

Our overall goal is to provide a safe environment to keep our children in school.

Some challenges we discussed as identifying close contacts, school testing procedures, and communication practices we want to use. Overall, this is a very subjective concept that requires us to balance ever-changing environmental factors.
